Race cars were on the track in Daytona, Danica Patrick started her first NASCAR
race, the Winter Olympics opened, record snowfall buried much of the country,
and it was Valentines Day weekend. All of this could not
keep the next generation of young racing stars from their passion - competing
in their own cars, sharpening their skills and just having fun.

Teen burning it up on the race track. Erika Newcome, 14, a freshman at Liberty
Union, has excelled in quarter-midget racing, capturing two United States Auto
Club (USAC) series championships this past October.
Erika began competing at 9 years old. After enduring some tough losses,
the past nine months have been remarkably successful for her.
"It was her ninth birthday and she wanted a
Erika Newcome - USAC Champion
swing set, and her dad bought her a race car," Rick said, laughing. "With more
experience, more seat time, she's become a better racer."
"She has to be the best at what she does. She hates to lose." Erika hasn't been losing
much as of late. She won six championships this past summer on the outdoor circuit and
became the first female driver to capture a United States Auto Club series title,
which she did twice in 2009. To read the full story by Abigail S. Fisher, Eagle-Gazette Click Here COLUMBUS, Ohio - Feb 8, 2010
Columbus’ Nuckles Family Named NASCAR's Promoter Of The Year
By Paul Schaefer, NASCAR
from left, Jeff Nuckles, Jim Nuckles, and Bobbie Nuckles (now deceased);
rear, Jerry Nuckles and John Nuckles.
The promoters of a signature NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track have been
named as the best in the nation for 2010. By vote of weekly short-track operators
across the United States, the Nuckles family and Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway
received the prestigious 25th annual Auto Racing Promoter of the Year Monday morning.
The award is a highlight of the annual Racing Promotion Monthly workshops, held
annually in Daytona Beach during Speedweeks.
Four generations of the family have operated the .333-mile circular paved oval,
which opens for its 63rd season on April 10. Known as one of the Buckeye State’s
premier facilities, Columbus Motor Speedway has been part of the NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series since 1989.
“There is not a more deserving family in the motorsports industry today,” said
Jim Hunter, NASCAR vice president of corporate communications. “All of us at NASCAR
are proud of the Nuckles family for receiving such an honor." To read the full

Chad Hackenbracht, former BQMRA member and Buckeye Indoor Winternational Champion,
will start the biggest race of his career this Saturday - the Lucas Oil Slick
Mist 200 at Daytona Int'l Speedway.
Chad, a high school senior, has qualified his #58 Tastee Chocolate Apple
Chevrolet in the 31st starting spot for the most anticipated race in ARCA's
history. Chad said "Being 18 years old, it is a great accomplishment to
Chad Hackenbracht #58 Tastee Apple
Chevrolet
start the race in Daytona. It's a long ways from racing quarter midgets in Ohio."
Chad Hackenbracht 2007 Indoor Winternationals
It all started with racing quarter midgets in the Buckeye State. "My father and I were watching
a race from Daytona at home in Ohio when I was 12 and I said to him that I
wanted to race" beamed Hackenbracht. "Next thing I know I am racing quarter
midgets and fast forward 6 years and I can't believe I am actually going to
race at Daytona. It's pretty overwhelming."
The race begins Saturday Feb 6th at 4 p.m. and will be telecast on SPEED. To

While mother nature was crippling the Southeast
with a winter storm stretching from Northern Texas all the way to Washington DC, the kids
of Quarter Midget racing were busy spinning up their own storm in a spectacular
duel at the Ohio Expo Center. License plates from twenty plus states crisscrossing
the United States and Canada dotted the indoor pit area as the drivers aging
from five to sixteen settled the score of this National Event on the race track.

Close to two hundred entries competed and seventeen drivers from nine different
states came across the finish line with their fist pumped high in the air as
they earned a distinguished Buckeye Indoor Winternational victory.
Adding to the excitement, chassis manufactures debuted numerous engineering
masterpieces. The innovation, vision and invention of the manufactures and
race teams kept Bob Abercrombie, BQMRA Tech Director, on his toes. "Having
the top chassis designers, engine builders, handlers and drivers in one place
every two weeks makes this series an incredible learning environment for all.
This is the perfect opportunity to try new things in a highly competitive
racing situation - step outside your comfort zone, make your program better."
Congratulations to the A-Main winners: Madison Boyd, Cason Konzer, Caleb Cagle,
Christian Pitman, Kris Lederer, Ross Rankine, Austin Jackson, Seth Crandall,
Ty Fiser, Ethan Mullet, Brandon Grosso, Dawson Loehner, Daniel McPherson,
Michael Fanelli and Rookies - Matt Myers, Cole Crandall and Joey Tracy.

A time capsule was discovered - photos of the first car to take the track at the Buckeye
Indoors back in 1956! The Gallagher family's scaled 1934 Plymouth.
The car was constructed out of parts from a refrigerator, washing
machine and a bed frame! Truly remarkable craftsmanship for 1956.
